SFI Race Latch Harness FAQ
The 50 Caliber Racing Race Latch is a traditional latch & link style racing buckle. Each belt section connects separately at the center latch, creating a simple, proven restraint system commonly used in off-road and motorsports competition.
Our Race Latch SFI harness is offered in a 5 Point configuration with two shoulder belts, two lap belts and one anti-submarine strap.
If you prefer a quick-release rotary buckle, our Camlock Race Series harnesses are available in both 5 Point and 6 Point configurations.
This Race Series harness is certified to SFI Specification 16.1, a motorsports safety specification covering driver restraint assemblies.
SFI requirements address areas such as:
- Webbing strength and performance
- Harness construction and stitching
- Buckles, adjusters and attachment hardware
- Performance of the complete restraint assembly
SFI-certified harnesses also carry an official certification label identifying the applicable specification and certification date.
You may need an SFI-certified harness if you compete in a racing series or event that requires certified driver restraints.
Requirements vary by sanctioning organization, vehicle class and type of competition. Always check the current rulebook for your specific series before purchasing or installing race restraints.
For recreational trail riding, dunes, rock crawling and general off-road use where SFI certification is not required, one of our standard UTV harnesses may be a more convenient option.
Shop our 4 Point UTV Harnesses or 5 Point UTV Harnesses .
A 5 Point harness uses two shoulder belts, two lap belts and a fifth anti-submarine strap that runs between the legs and connects at the center buckle.
The anti-submarine strap helps control forward movement and helps keep the lap portion of the harness properly positioned during aggressive driving and impact loads.
Proper belt routing, mounting position and seat compatibility are important to the performance of any multi-point racing restraint.
The Race Series is available with 2 inch and 3 inch belt widths, giving racers the ability to choose the setup that works best with their seat, restraint system and personal preference.
Two-inch shoulder belts are also compatible with most HANS-style head and neck restraint devices. If you use a head and neck restraint, always verify the required belt width and routing with the manufacturer of your specific device.
Racing organizations may also specify belt-width requirements, so check your current class rules before choosing a harness.
Ultra Kush™ padded shoulders add cushioning across the shoulder area and can make the harness more comfortable during long races and rough off-road driving.
Non-padded shoulders provide a firmer, more direct restraint feel with less material between the webbing and the driver. Many racers prefer this setup because they want the harness to hold them as firmly and consistently as possible.
Neither option is automatically better. The right choice depends on your seating position, comfort preference and the restraint feel you want from the harness.
SFI-certified race harnesses are built around a defined motorsports performance specification and carry an official certification label. They are intended for competition applications where certified restraints may be required.
Standard UTV harnesses are designed primarily for recreational off-road riding and typically place more emphasis on everyday comfort, simple adjustment and convenience.
- Certification: SFI race harnesses carry an SFI certification label.
- Construction: Race harnesses use competition-oriented belt sections, hardware and mounting arrangements.
- Use: SFI harnesses are designed for motorsports applications; standard UTV harnesses are primarily intended for recreational off-road use.
SFI-certified harnesses include a certification label showing the applicable specification and certification date.
Racing organizations may limit how long a harness remains eligible for competition based on its certification date. These requirements can vary between sanctioning bodies and racing classes.
Always check the current rules for your racing organization before an event and replace any harness that shows damage, excessive wear, contamination or deterioration regardless of its certification date.
Race Series harnesses can be used in many UTVs, side-by-sides and off-road competition vehicles equipped with appropriate restraint mounting locations.
Fitment depends on the seat, roll cage, harness bar, mounting points and required belt geometry. Popular applications include Polaris RZR, Can-Am Maverick X3 and Maverick R, Yamaha YXZ1000R, Kawasaki KRX 1000, Honda Talon and other race-prepared off-road vehicles.
Always verify the required mounting locations and belt routing for your vehicle and racing organization before installation.
Proper Installation and Inspection
Motorsports and off-road driving involve inherent risks. Proper restraint installation, belt routing, mounting geometry and regular inspection are critical.
The buyer and installer are responsible for verifying compatibility with the vehicle, seat, mounting system and applicable racing rules. Harnesses should be inspected regularly and replaced if webbing, stitching, hardware or mounting components show damage or excessive wear.
This racing harness is not represented as a replacement for DOT/FMVSS-certified street-vehicle restraints. Use and installation must comply with applicable laws, competition rules and recognized motorsports safety practices.

UTV & Off-Road Harness FAQ
No. This harness is not SFI certified. SFI certification is a racing-specific safety standard required for professional or sanctioned competition.
For normal off-road use—such as trail riding, dunes, and desert runs—an SFI-rated harness is not required. Elite and Pro Series harnesses are built from high-strength webbing and durable hardware that handle aggressive off-road driving while providing better comfort and easier adjustment than race-legal setups.
Elite and Pro Series harnesses use sewn-together shoulder straps and lap belts, creating a single integrated harness assembly.
This design simplifies installation, reduces loose components, and provides a more comfortable, stable fit for recreational off-road driving.
